The standard PA-25-235 engine is the O-540-B2C5 at 235HP fixed pitch An STC changes the exhaust valves and piston to increase the engine to 250HP fix pitch Everything else, to include carburetor, magnetos, etc , stay the same The engine data plate is stamped O-540-B2C5-C-A1D5

We have an O-540-B2C5 235HP, upgraded to 250HP by STC with different pistons and I think exhaust valves It is now an O-540-B2C5-A1D5 The A1D5 engine is the 250HP version of the O540 that is in the Comanche, same case, so it fits Then you need the STC that approves the install of the modified engine on the Pawnee

I've been pricing O-540s, I have one over the 2000hr TBO now and running strong, another O-540 at 1100hrs Last summer the time factor was "over a year" for an overhauled engine and plan about $50K O-540-B2C5 (235hp) and O-540-B2C5-C-A1D5 (STC to 250hp) Have a friend that had metal in the oil Sent the engine out for overhaul
