I've heard lots of bad fish stories concerning PetCo and PetSmart What is the average condition of the fish that you've gotten from PetCo or PetSmart?

Petco seems to have better fish choices, while Petsmart sticks with the bread and butter species Petsmart also pushes their cheap branded aquariums over selling other manufacturers' aquariums In short, I like Petco better

I went to my LFS for three weekends and I swear I saw the same betta three times in a row It could be a different fish, but it got me curious How long does Petsmart Petco etc keep betta fish in those cups and what kind of maintenance do they do on them? How long can Betta even live in those cups?

Has anyone noticed a lack of tropical fish available lately in stores? Our local pet stores are always low and I've been to PetCo and PetSmart in two different locations and they seem to always be low Lots of empty tanks
