The PIAT can penetrate the sides of the Panther and just barely the Tiger (80mm of pen vs Tiger side armor of 80mm) but it's a hell of a lot harder to hit tanks outside of dynamite pack range while the M1 can easily hit tanks out past 200m which is very useful considering how often tanks sit behind their spawns in Normandy
