The hole was something Polk burned into the dome with a soldering iron way back in the day Many other speaker manufactures used that exact tweeter so you will see some with and without the hole in the dome

@F1nut I agree, I should upgrade those stands a bit They do have some rubber pads on the feet and on the tops where the speaker sits
