The water pump on both 5 9 and 6 7 Cummins is extremely robust and when they fail it is mostly from a catastrophic failure of the bearings after the bearing seals fail and if the owner is not occasionally monitoring for coolant drips from the weep hole

I have a 95 175hp p pump that is going on an older engine in place of a ve pump that is giving out on me The engine (including the pump) was 100% stock, and was set at 12 5 degrees timing I am thinking of setting it to about 17 degrees The 12v Cummins engine (this one is getting the p pump) is in a old chevy school bus converted to a motorhome

That's a bushing it threads in the top of the pump and holds the barrel and plunger down NO you don't need a new pump, and YES is if fixable It's a $5 o-ring, but the barrel and plunger is timed Need to loosen half of the bolts on the side plate, and drain the fuel from the manifold

Just use something relatively fresh, like a high turnover truck stop pump or jug box with a recent date DEF has a shelf life that gets shorter as the storage temperature increases The Walmart jugs have a standard date sticker stamp on them Some other brands use a date code or reverse Julian date
