I just downloaded RealTerm and did some testing: "Half Duplex" (strangely enough) appears to be the equivalent of "local echo", however that only works to turn off outgoing data for screen display (although see the last item below) The diagnostic log file seems to capture incoming and outgoing data regardless

I generally use RealTerm However I have had problems sometimes with it locking up in Windows 7, particularly with virtual COM ports like USB So I got a copy of HyperTerminal Private Edition, by Hilgraeve Inc which is the company that wrote the original HyperTerminal for Microsoft They indicate it works with Windows 7, 8, and Vista As others have said, it isn't that great a terminal

Try Realterm: The shown commands should turn the TV on and off, if I read the manual correctly As the other answer suggests, also make sure that TxD RxD are not swapped (pins 2 and 3 on the DE-9 pinout)

Good observation, actually I missed out that I had started with other software first (CASModbus Scanner) and had this issue, I thought it was that software that was causing it which is why I went to RealTerm -- but same problem
