OP, I agree with your choice not to retire in FL It does make me sad as we lived there several decades ago (with half the population) before the orange groves were demolished for endless housing tracts The heat plus the traffic are so much worse Those reasons and insurance costs are causing our friends to leave even with beautiful paid up homes If you choose the Carolinas, particularly NC
