My server refused to update the server settings file I followed others advise deleting the worldoption sav file and it did swap to using the palworldsettings ini but then again refused to change settings The way I fixed it was creating a new world and putting the settings I wanted and then went through the world file and took the worldoption sav and replaced the one on my dedicated server

As other have said, sav in unreal context is just an extension name, it doesn't have file format specification (mostly, since it still has some stuff for the raw USaveGame object deserialization) So it's entirely project dependent Some games may simply use the sav extension and skip unreal save game objects altogether
