- A quick Z4 3. 0 SMG review. | BimmerFest BMW Forum
SMG transmission Just bought a new Z4 3 0i with SMG transmission as well (about 800 miles on the car) I absolutely love it, but I agree that you must only drive it in sport mode In non-sport mode, the shifts feel a little sluggish (at least compared to the sport mode) Shifting from R-N-D and back does take too much time, but a small price to
- SMG wont shift (solved) - BimmerFest BMW Forum
If you are having SMG issues, I highly recommend changing this out just to see if it's the problem because it's only an $8 risk but could save tons of money even if you are not good at working on cars, this is really easy and here is what you need to know SMG relay, part number: 12631742690 Typically between $7-$9
- 645 SMG gear Will NOT work | Page 2 | BimmerFest BMW Forum
Wrong The SMG system built in the 645 650 is the same as built in the Non-M E60, Z4 E85 and E46 models It's the 6-speed Non-M SMG (also often referenced as SSG) which is completely different to the SMG II (M3) and SMG III (M5 and M6)

- DCT vs. SMG vs. Steptronic vs MT | BimmerFest BMW Forum
Interesting thought, CA My last ride had SMG and my new ride has DCT (not interested in a 3-pedal MT) The main reason for my choices has been b c I was under the impression (certainly true at one time, at least) that a torque converter = power energy loss (i e , AT = bad), and both SMG and DCT shift faster than most all humans can shift a MT
