San Nicolas is a flat island, about 8 miles by 3 It is the farthest out of the California Channel Islands You can land a fair sized jet on it though
- Boilers, San Nicolas Island - Dive R
A bit more than a mile off of the north west corner of San Nicolas Island is a shallow rocky spot called the Boilers I have also heard it called Bull City Apparently, it used to be about the best place to find the large San Nic bull lobsters It is a pretty rough place, as it is shallow reefs and rocks that go on for over half a mile and more than a hundred yards wide I really do not know

This is my "Trip Report" from the March 6, 2004 Sea Divers Adventure on the Great Escape to San Nicolas Island There was the usual flurry of activity as everyone boarded the boat and made their final preparations for the 11pm departure time I spent a little of this time following Capt Don around with my camera

Off the West end of San Nicolas Island is miles of divable reef Looking at an underwater map of the area, shows perhaps 30 square miles of rocky reefs in less than 100 feet of water Some of this area is boulders and rock piles, but a large part of it is flat undulating rock In the 70's, I heard it called "The Flats" and "The Freeway"
