With the recent Sansui threads, it got me to wondering what happened to the firm I hadn't realized they had dissappeared from the North American market I dug up a couple of posts from Google Groups that stated the firm went bankrupt in the mid 90's and the name was sold to a Hong Kong firm

These were Sansui's attempt to build JBL killers, and by most accounts I hear, they were successful at making a serious speaker system with the SP-L models That leaves the SP and SP-X series as the more commonly seen and known (SP-L were very expensive new, and apparently not sold in great numbers, thereby limiting their exposure)

At the time, combing the Exclusively Sansui AK thread archives, three seemed to standout with high community praise and well suited for my listening levels, speakers and room - the AU-555a, AU-717 and AU-9900 - not in any particular order

That said, I don't believe this was the last line of decent receivers from Sansui I have a Z-5000X that sounds very good, and an S-X1200 that has a toroidal transformer and the big Sanken output transistors, and sounds very good as well The Z-#000X series were mostly plastic with metal knobs, but had great sound and were made in Japan
