- Is Sharkbite OK on main line - Love Plumbing Remodel
I wanted a valve on the main line and a plumber installed a shark bite valve Now, 6 years later, I find that the fitting is spinning It might have been spinning earlier as well and I did not realize Two questions-- Is the fitting failing ? Is shark bite fitting good for long term solution?
- Seeking advice for replacing main shutoff. Okay to use sharkbite . . .
1 Is it okay to use a sharkbite immediately off the incoming line before the main shutoff like I am planning, or should this always be soldered? 2 If the answer to 1 is soldered, should I solder the valve directly or can I solder a PEX adapter and then install the valve with PEX? 3 There is currently a check valve right before the main shutoff

I've got a couple shark bite caps on hot and cold water copper supply lines that I'm ready to remove and replace with valves (plumber put them on) I thought it would be a simple matter of pulling them off but they won't budge What's up? Do I have to cut the pipe? :confused:

A 1 2" Sharkbite needs about an inch of pipe to seat fully if I remember (it says on the package and varies by the diameter of the fitting) A compression fitting also needs a moderate amount of pipe, as the pipe goes into the valve, then you have the compression ring and the nut towards the outside

Neither Lowes nor Home Depot has this, but Supply House does Are there any compatibility issues across different brands of PEX? I know there is a difference between the expansion (Uponor Pro Pex) fittings and compression fittings, but what about Apollo vs Sharkbite for example THANKS!

On another thread, a pro maintenance plumber says he always uses Sharkbite for repairs and they'll last as long as copper fitting repairs While I'm old school enough to wonder about that, what say you other pros? What does Sharkbite claim? jack vines

If there is still solder on the copper will Sharkbite connector still work I may need to cut the pipe with a dremel or hacksaw then find a way to deburr smooth the outside edge
