- Spanking? - Homeschool Spot
4 When a spanking is needed, it is done in private (not in front of friends or siblings) You state how many swats he she will get (we go with two but if he does not submit to the spanking more are added) You tell them how many so that they know you are in control and not acting in anger
- Disciplining unfinished schoolwork (spanking) - Homeschool Spot
I agree that spanking doesn't relate to the unfinished schoolwork, but I consider the issue NOT to be the work but a rebellious attitude And I feel that spanking is a very acceptable punishment for that I think they've tried all kinds of "natural consequences", and it hasn't helped Drastic behavior requires drastic punishment

When we do spank, we talk to them first and explain what they got in trouble for and that they knew the consequence was spanking They made the choice to disobey and so they should expect their punishment After a spanking, we always hug them and tell them that we love them and that we don't want to spank them, but we have to discipline them
- Spanking, yes or no, and why? - Homeschool Spot
I don't think this thread is about people who misuse spanking (beating children, or using spanking as the only form of punishment or spanking in anger, etc) At least that's not the impression I got from the OP And do think there is a correct way and an incorrect way to incorporate spanking into your parenting toolbox

Just my two cents' worth about spanking: I believe it is a tool that parents can use It's not our first choice There are other tools in our toolbox! However, a spanking should be given only in response to willful defiance to a clear, appropriate parental directive that the child understands and is capable of following

Spanking in anger, I think everyone agrees, is not the right way to ever go about it I would venture the opinion that pre-meditated also carries the potential to harm, psychologically I'm not judging anyone We all want what's best for our babies, and we're on our own paths to get it

Spanking does not imply a loss of control Spanking is not for those who are sick and tired of a child's actions Spanking does not mean you do not love your child Spanking does not mean you are not logical Spanking is NOT emotion driven If you are considering spanking based on your emotions then forget it Establish it as a punishment or don't

He would laugh at time-outs! Spankings were a necessity for that kid For #3, it was NOT a last resort, it had to be the first response, or the situation would continue to escalate I believe spanking is scriptual, but I also am aware of situations where it is over used unfortunately, I've also seen situations where it was clearly under-used!LOL
