The selector valve was still on the truck when I got it but frozen up so I changed it out with one that has a solenoid and does it automatically when the other tank is selected I'm going to be adding an in cab tank as the main tank though and found a diagram of the setup and located the parts shown for it through Dennis Carpenter

When I pulled the tank to replace the heater, I had waited until it was showing as being nearly empty (106 miles remaining) Anyway, I replaced the tank heater and put everything back together I immediately popped a code, but didn't have my scanner with me, so had assumed it was just the old permanent code not having yet been cleared
- Bad Ground??? | 1987 - 1991 Ford F150, F250 and F350 Truck Forum
I purchased the truck a month or so ago knowing it was a little bit of a basket case The previous owner removed the front tank (who knows why-he even left all the fuel pump sender wires bare and hanging) but the rear tank is still intact and has fresh fuel in it The fuel pump will only run when I give it 12v at the fuel tank selection switch

Just low pressure pump in each tank, high pressure pump in the rail There is a can where all 4 lines go together, and into 2 lines coming out, this is the system that keeps the tank you are pulling from, from filling the other tank It fails over time They are getting hard to find and expensive When they fail, they shut down the fuel pressure
- fuel gauge problems on 1972 Ford F250 Custom Camper Special
1967 72 F100 350 with optional 25 gallon auxiliary fuel tank has a manual control fuel tank selector valve located on the drivers side of the floor adjacent to the seat The selector switch located under the dash to the left of the steering column only changes the dash fuel gauge from one tank to the other
- Fuel level gauge problem | 2009 - 2014 Ford F150 Truck Forum
Replace the Evaporator Purge Valve These go bad, cause a vacuum in the tank which causes it to pull in If it still reads bad, you'll also need to pull the fuel pump assembly from the tank to replace it, because the tank pulled in enough to bend the fuel pump assembly
- Fuel delivery issues on my 92 F250 5. 8 gas - Ford Truck Zone
-the front tank does exhibit some same issues as the rear but on a scale of 1 to 10 it’s a 2, very little-the rear tank does run from the get go but varies in duration before trouble last night I drove with a full rear tank from Miami to home no issues -so the new rear fuel pump I believe is good-the rear tank was checked and is clean from debris
