Twat I think of as one of the stronger words, probably just a bit less offensive than 'fuck' As I understand it there was traditionally a North South divide on this word, with it being rated much less offensive down South Generally more Southerners viewed it just as a variation on 'twit' whereas Northerners viewed it as slang for vagina
