In your situation it sounds like UNLV would be a good option to save some money those first couple of years I will say UNR you get more of a college experience and you definitely will living in the dorms or off campus compared to living at home like you would at UNLV

Overall, UNR is the better school but UNLV does have some areas they do better than UNR UNLV is much more of a commuter school, without as much of the traditional college campus life that UNR has Geographically, Reno is far superior Take the 1 credit snowboarding class, when I did it was way cheaper than buying lift passes every week
