They sound nothing like the associated word It's difficult to say "uh" after "yuh" and difficult to say "huh" after "nuh" so the "huh" and the "uh" became sufficient to identify meaning This was confirmed when eventually the "n" and the "y" dropped off Is my totally speculative guess
