Vancouver isn’t what it used to be but still one of the greatest areas to live in my opinion I would just make sure you figure out which area is going to be a good fit for you Like a previous comment said, downtown had very good walkability but comes with higher crime rates, worse schools more congestion

Downtown Vancouver is a nice place to spend an evening, and the waterfront even more so I have a co-working desk in downtown Vancouver that I walk to on the nice days, and I get to walk through the Fort Vancouver park, which is a beautiful place

I don’t mind taking public transit into Portland or driving ubering if public transit is scarce and inaccessible and I know taxes are lower in Washington Please feel free to suggest neighborhoods in both areas that check at least most of my boxes as well!

Generally speaking housing is definitely cheaper in Vancouver than in Portland though Maybe not if you are comparing brand new, spacious apartments and condominiums to older stock in Portland, and especially not if you are looking at places in East Portland or North Portland, but apples to apples you get more for you money in Vancouver
