When the VRO pump first came out, it stood for variable ratio oiling These pumps would vary the amount of oil from 100 to 1 at idle to 50 to 1 at full throttle OMC eventually discontinued their production and switched to an OMS pump which pumps oil at 50 to 1 regardless of what rpm the engine runs

1 - Cut and plug the oil line at the engine so that the oil side of the VRO pump will not draw air into its system Trace the wires from the back of the VRO to its rubber plug (electrical plug) and disconnect it 2 - Trace the two wires from the oil tank to the engine, disconnect those two wires, then remove them and the oil tank

Ran clear hose on output side of VRO and pressure tested At 800 RPMs the pressure would gradually drop from 7 to 3 5 PSI within 15 to 18 second cycles Each time pressure reached about 3 5 PSI, I noticed a very small group of bubbles (very small- probably combined would make one 1 16 in diam bubble) that pass out of the fuel outlet

i just completed a conversion on my 2000 50 hp johnson 2 cycle i removed the VRO, pulse limiter nipple which connects to the VRO via a hose, unlpugged the VRO wire haress in the lower pan area port side plugged the pulse limiter tap with a napa brass pipe plug after opening threads slightly with a tapered pipe plug tap of the same thread size

The vro when running at best, starves the engine of the amount of oil it was designed to run on oil injected engines are totaly different and are made different, so do not try to compare with e-tec that is my opinion on vro and i have a block that it ruined for proof

The signals from the VRO are: No oil - continuous short pulses; Low oil - short pulse every 20 seconds; Fuel restriction - constant horn at or near full throttle The temperature switch in the cylinder head gives a constant horn at overheat, but that is at around 210 degrees when your engine is at serious risk

boat has sat along time 3yrs 115hp johnson o b is there a pump in the engine that may need looking at since it sat so long how does that oil get up to the engine i know about priming with the bulb got that figured out im new at this system always used premix on all my boats
