We layered up and started hiking the ridge top, further up the slope and towards a large peak In the photo below, there's a fairly well defined peak off in the distance with shadowed trees on the left and a bald spot on the right We "summited" above the dangerous slope and on the unseen back side (much steeper than the sides you can see)

One of my favorite spots in Colorado is a series of quakie benches, bordered by a dark timbered ridge on one side, and oak brush off the rim on the other side There are are a bunch of wallows along the border between the dark timber and aspen benches

Ended up running out of daylight, never got closer than about 150 yards Never saw him the next morning, but thought maybe I heard him bugle in the thick dark timber low in the drainage on the right side of what we now called "LUCKY ridge" Mid afternoon I eased down the side of the drainage to get closer to where I heard the bugle
