Please, do we say, el agua or la agua, - SpanishDict Agua is a feminine noun but you use el for the singular: el agua, las aguas This is typical of femine nouns beginning with a accented 'a' and is a phonetic thing, avoiding the running together of the two a's There is a short list of these words, including águila, and I can't think of others at the moment!
Why is el agua not la agua? - SpanishDict The only reason that they use "el" in their singular form is to avoid the difficulty (technically called a cacophony) of saying "la agua" or "la águila" very quickly (the a's would run into eachother ) But also note, as Fred said, that if anything comes before the article and the noun, then "la" is used
