Should WiFi routers be set to a channel or choose automatically? It is possible they could select a less than optimal channel; like 2,3,4,5,7,8 where already everyone else is sitting But fortunately, this is more an issue in old or really cheap WiFi routers Modern routers rarely have issues with auto-channel selection even if it's "in-between" and shouldn't really matter where you live
Is there a guide for channel selection for 5 ghz band? If the router detects RADAR the 5 GHz band will shut down for up to 10 minutes until the RADAR is cleared At Auto Channel 20, 40, 80, 160 MHz the router will drop back to 80 MHz on a non-DFS channel and keep working In fact I have found that the router will run at 80 MHz most of the time until an AX client connects then go to 160 MHz
Does Auto Channel ever change the channel? | SNBForums I have a RT-AC68U running Merlin 376 45 firmware I set the 2 4GHz Control Channel to Auto but it always stays on Channel 6 Wireless Mode is Auto and Channel bandwidth is 20 If I do a site survey the most congested channel appears to be Channel 6 Does Auto Channel work for anybody whereby
Understanding Auto channel selection | SNBForums The 2 4Ghz band around my townhome community needless to say is pretty crowded I use InSSIDer and have experimented with channel selection but have never really understood how Auto channel selection feature on the router works I have an ASUS RT-N66U See attached screen shot from InSSIDer
optimal wifi settings advice RT-AX88U | SNBForums For 2 4ghz, set it to 20Mhz auto channel selection Auto channel selection is best for 2 4ghz as this band is always saturated and AP's hop around all the time If you set it to manual, you could wake up the next day and be oversaturated The auto channel selection routine is good enough to change itself
Channel 1,6 and 11 Myth or Truth? | SNBForums - SmallNetBuilder Forums Up until recently, I have been relying on auto channel selection by my router access points However, I know there are many experienced network user talks about 1, 6 and 11 for 2 4 GHz The reasoning here makes total sense, which is because these 3 are only channels that do not overlap in 2 4 GHz 20 MHz channel width setting
How do Wi-Fi routers determine which channel to use? Different vendors have different proprietary algorithms for how their APs automatically select channels Some take into account other Wi-Fi networks and pick the least congested channel, some limit the channel they will pick to 1, 6, or 11, some take into account the noise level on each channel (so they avoid channels with non-Wi-Fi interferers)
RT-AX86u Best 5ghz Control Channel | SNBForums - SmallNetBuilder Forums Same as @thiggins advice - don't use DFS channels and 160MHz wide channel, especially near airports Lock 2 4GHz on 20MHz wide Find your best channels and lock the router there Don't change the channels often and the APs around will adjust Most work on Auto channel - routers installed by the ISP company technicians
Baseline configuration of Channel Bandwidth and Control Channel (dual . . . MY experiences with over 2 weeks on Asus XT12 -my thoughts. 1 2 4ghz Wifi channel -auto or manual selection results For 1 week as L LD mentioned in his threads ages ago I put my Asus XT12 on auto channel selection I noticed most traffic (neighbour on auto it seems), seems to be on 1,6,11 I never seen any network on any other channel My XT12 picks a variety of channels e g 1,6,7,11,9
