बटेर - विकिपीडिया बटेर या वर्तक (quail) भूमि पर रहने वाले जंगली पक्षी हैं। ये ज्यादा लम्बी दूरी तक नहीं उड़ सकते हैं और भूमि पर घोंसले बनाते हैं। इनके स्वादिष्ट माँस के कारण इनका शिकार किया जाता है। इस कारण बटेरों की संख्या में बहुत कमी आ गई है। भारत सरकार ने इसी वजह से वन्य जीवन संरक्षण कानून, 1972 के तहत बटेर के शिकार पर प्रतिबन्ध लगा दिया है।
