ELI5: Why are phobias named ironically? : r explainlikeimfive Same deal with "aibohphobia," this is a fear that was named by a person to make a joke If anyone actually suffers from this fear or anxiety, obviously a doctor would not name or categorize it in a way that causes them stress You just picked some of the ironic examples that were made to be silly, rather than named as actual psychological issues
I just discovered that the word nothing is a palindrome. . . The word for ‘fear of palindromes’ is aibohphobia It’s a genius that came up with that Along with the word ‘lisp’ having an ‘s’ in it - that’s just cruel (“I have a lisp oh never mind”) Reply reply YohanGoodbye •

Why are medical terms needlessly cruel? : r NoStupidQuestions Aibohphobia and hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia are not real, or if they are real those are not the actual words for them, they are words made up to poke fun at the rather long list of actual phobias Dyslexia is a medical term so any such word would be hard to read as a dyslexic (medical terms are based on latin after all)
