Ceph librbd vs krbd - Proxmox Support Forum librbd and krbd are just two different clients, the ceph pool does not care much with which one you access an RBD image In Proxmox VE we use librbd for VMs by default and krbd for Containers But, you can enforce the use of the kernel RBD driver also for VMs if you set "krbd" on in the PVE storage configuration of a pool
krbd | Proxmox Support Forum We recently enable kRBD (tick the KRBD box in storage configuration) for our running cluster Faster IO was the main reason, We record 30% gain in reads writes in all VM running in writeback cache mode But then a couple of VMs disks needed to be resized In both cases disks went to 0 bytes
Ceph RBD or KRBD experiences and reliability Hello everyone, I would like share my experience and have your opinion regarding the use of Ceph with RBD or KRBD I have noticed a significant performance increase using KRBD, but I am unsure whether it is reliable, especially for continuous and long-term use I am attaching screenshots taken from a Windows VM running CrystalDiskMark
KRBD on made my VM fly like a rocket. . . why? - Proxmox Support Forum But I'm able to reach 4GB S with both, and around 70000 iops with 4k block , both krbd or rbd for 1 qemu disk also with krbd, as you test is sequential, it's quite possible than readahead works better with krbd Krbd is a kernel driver, it's a dev rbdx device on host, librbd is a library and qemu directly talk with ceph cluster
[SOLVED] - Enable KRBD on non-KRBD Ceph Pool - Proxmox Support Forum I am already using 2 pools, one for KVM disk images with KRBD disabled, and the other for LXC containers with KRBD enabled My question was if I can enable KRBD for the non KRBD pool and start storing LXC containers along with KVM disk images on the same Ceph pool The non-KRBD pool right now holds a lot of KVM disk images
CEPH + KRBD for VM image strange hungs - Proxmox Support Forum We have 12 OSD on 6 hosts, all hosts used for VM + CEPH (33 vm running) VMs has poor perfomance so we decide to do some tests with KRBD So - I mark storage1_ct(krbd) for use with VM images (just for test, we have no containers) - Move one image from storage1_vm to storage1_ct VM config:
Any one can explain why the krbd module much faster than librbd D remove extra rbd image features that dont work with krbd E- switch the whole proxmox cluster rbd storage to krbd (this means if at that moment any vm reboot it cannot boot but that was just for 1 min till i do the test) F- test performance on the same vm after switching and we got 10X gain G- revert the rbd storage in proxmox to non krbd
Unable to access ceph-based disks with krbd option enabled The same happens if I add a new rbd storage (for the same cluster, just with the krbd switch turned on) and try to move the disk from rbd to krbd storage: Code: can't map rbd volume vm-211-disk-1: rbd: sysfs write failed (500)
Performance with KRBD and Writeback. - Proxmox Support Forum We've been doing some testing with KRBD and Writeback, and have noticed -massive- performance gains with the two paired in Windows Server 2019 and OpenBSD guests Proxmox 6 3 22 2tb SSD OSD's Ceph 14 2 22 I've attached crystaldiskmark screenshots of the latency in the VM KRBD No Writeback
