Difference between SPS, LPS, Soft Corals, and more. Both LPS and SPS are further broken down by a number of factors including polyp tentacle shape and growth pattern Note that in this hobby it is not uncommon for trade names, common hobbyist names, and scientific names (both correct, incorrect, outdated and up to date) to be used in conjunction with each other and interchangeably
How do you mix SPS and LPS corals in your tank without causing problems . . . Ensure there’s enough distance between the corals, especially between SPS and LPS, to avoid any issues Water Parameters: Both SPS and LPS corals need stable and consistent water parameters, but they can have slightly different needs SPS prefer higher calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium levels, while LPS can tolerate a bit more fluctuation
Sps, lps, soft corals? | Reef2Reef To further elaborate on your original question SPS in general or higher light higher flow LPs are in the middle, while softies usually are low light and lower flow For practical purposes LPS are middle road while softies are very easy to care for and SPS can be a bit trickier
LPS Dominant Reef - Superb Aquascape! | Reef2Reef This is just my opinion from seeing many reef aquariums over the years, but pulling off an aesthetically pleasing LPS dominant system is not so easy a task (excluding Euphyllia dominant tanks as there are many finely aqua scaped examples) I'm specifically referring to those that predominantly feature 'round-ish' LPS

EMERGENCY - HELP! Losing LPS to bacterial infection? My input, whenever I run into mysterious issues with LPS before, I used hydrogen peroxide at dip strengths suggested in Justin Grabels guide (just google) it works amazingly well and the hydrogen peroxide dip strength that LPS can handle is super high (at the top of the list) so it usually helps with anything bacterial
What is PAR and how much do we need? | Reef2Reef Such as LPS corals can handle greater PARs up to 500, and soft corals will adjust to PAR over 200 with adequate time to adjust so they can adapt to a wide range of lighting over time The lighting schedule can also play a huge role in the success of the reef aquarium regarding PAR levels
Custom AI Prime 16HD Settings (Saxby x BRS AB+) Downloadable Schedule Anyways, I have a Waterbox Cube 20g so my tank is an 18" cube essentially and my light is mounted 10" above the water line I used the BRS numbers at 70% because that is what is best for my tank (mixed tank, mostly LPS and Softies with a few SPS up top) Figured I would share what I made - seems to be working pretty well
