Battery light kicks on but test meter says otherwise - neons. org I noticed something odd since I got my stepson's 2001 Neon back to do more repairs I start the engine and in a few seconds the battery light kicks on I hooked up a meter directly to the battery and when the engine is not running, I get around 12 6 volts but when I start the engine, the meter show's around 13 3 volts That seems to indicate the alternator is charging the battery but why does
