  • Coated head comparison for toms: Remo Ambassador -vs- Remo Emperor
Remo sent me a set of heads for him He used a Coated Ambassador over a clear Ambassador on the high tom, and Coated Emperors over clear Ambassadors on the floor toms I really liked that combination, and I've been using it ever since (Sometimes I use coated Ambassadors on the resonant side )
  • Drum Head History - [DFO] Drum Forum
The advent of clear drumheads Remo cs Blackdots, Ludwig Silverdots, Evans Red, Blue "Looking Glass" Chrome Gold hydraulic heads, Duraline heads, Ludwig Ensemble, and Rockers, Remo Pinstripes and Fiberskyns
  • Remo vs. Evans heads | [DFO] Drum Forum
I agree Remo coatings for batter heads don't seem to have much of a life-span I seldom use coated heads, prefer textured heads for snares so have limited experience To my ears, Evans heads seem to fit a more modern sound that emphasizes attack at the expense of resonance i would rather have the resonance, ergo i use mostly Remo heads
  • What are these drums? | [DFO] Drum Forum
P D Siddall, Your drums are Remo Bravo II in Blue Chromeburst Quadura finish These sets were first offered in Remo's 1999 catalog and continued production into 2001 as far as I know Made in Valencia, Ca with Acousticon-R shells which are the same shells as the Mastertouch line
  • Remo Ambassador X vs Vintage Ambassador - [DFO] Drum Forum
I am a long time Aquarian user and I have been dabbling back in the Remo pool lately Does anyone have any experience with the Ambassador X and Vintage Ambassador head models ? Can you explain the differences please ?
  • Remo knockoff heads. How does one tell. | [DFO] Drum Forum
A few weeks back, I bought a Pearl Piccolo maple snare drum This is not an expensive drum, but it is nicely finished and works fine To my surprise, the drum came with what appeared to be Remo Ambassador USA heads Fast forward I'd been trying to get sounds typical of Ambassadors and
  • Remo kit questions for experts. | [DFO] Drum Forum
When Remo came out with its Gold Crown sets in the early-mid 2000s, they have new shells called Advanced Acousticon Interestingly, Remo dropped the molded bearing edges and returned to cut edges for these drums In an interview in Modern Drummer, a Remo rep said that the molded edge wasn't working for them but didn't explain exactly what he meant Hope this helps
  • Coated Ambassador VS. Ambassador X | [DFO] Drum Forum
I am very late to the drum head game and just found out about the Remo X line For those of you who have used them, how do the coated ambassadors X compare to standard coated ambassadors? Thanks!
  • Remo Tunable practice pad | [DFO] Drum Forum
I got one of the first-generation Remo tunable pads around 1962 – 1963 Unlike today's version the tension hoop was metal and did not have the raised rim that allows you to practice rim shots It consisted of a composite base upon which sat a metal hoop that provided a bearing edge for the drumhead There was a foam rubber disk inside of the metal hoop; the drumhead fit over this bearing
  • What Is Effect Of A Dot On A Drum Head? Coated AND Clear?
Way back in the day, I was playing in R and B horn bands and using Remo black dot heads (clear) on the toms and bass drum They sounded fantastic for that music--really open and tonal, but the overtones were very focused so the fundamental note was very prominent At some point, I tried a coated dot head on the bass drum It sucked
