Schaaf tools 12 piece set - Woodcarving Illustrated I bought the Schaaf 4-piece fishtail gouge set I completed the partial conditioning on the fishtails and used them along side my Pfeil fishtail gouges If done right, the gouges perform at a level very comparable to Pfeil Previous post: Review of Schaaf Carving Tools - Woodcarving Illustrated
Flexcut or Schaaf for starting out? - Woodcarving Illustrated For the knives, handle shape and feel is important and personal I've got large hands and I didn't like the feel of the Flexcut handles Schaaf didn't have knives on offer when I purchases my knives and I wasn't even aware of the company If I were to buy a set of knives now, I'd probably buy the Schaaf ones
Review of Schaaf Carving Tools - Woodcarving Illustrated I am so glad to see another positive review in Woodcarving Illustrated for the Schaaf carving tools I have had mine for over a year now, continue to enjoy them and find them comparable to Pfeil and other "high-end" (price, not necessarily better quality) tool manufacturers
Schaaf Wood Carving Tools - Woodcarving Illustrated I have been using the Schaaf tools for several years now I do own Henry Taylor, Ashley Iles, Addis, Marples, Pfeil, and other brands and consider the Schaaf tools among my best They do require a little TLC but so do most others and sharpening is a basic skill to the craft Their customer service is first rate
New, unsharpened Schaaf chisels - Woodcarving Illustrated Contact Schaaf and see if they will help you swap out your set for credit on a sharpened set They are great folks Keep in mind that you will still need to learn to do maintenance and basic sharpening is a skill you should develop anyway I truly wished there was a complete video on initially preparing a set of carving tools for work
Flexcut or Schaaf for starting out? - Woodcarving Illustrated Depends to some extent as to whether you're talking about knives or gouges, full size or palm tools I have Schaaf, Flexcut, Warren, OCCT and a couple other gouges that I can't recall at the moment The only knives I use regularly are Flexcut detail and chip carving, and those only minimally for trim work
Review of Schaaf Carving Tools - Woodcarving Illustrated There are several "high-end" brands in my tool kit, Pfeil, Ashley Iles, Henry Taylor, Stubai, among others, and the Schaaf tools definitely rate a place on my bench beside or in place of those Nothing against the "high-end" brands, but the Schaaf tools have allowed me to buy some profiles styles that otherwise I wouldn't have been able to afford
Review of Schaaf Carving Tools - Woodcarving Illustrated In my enthusiasm I decided to buy the Schaaf fishtail set - four gouges At one source the price was about $18 per gouge, a far cry from the price I paid for one fishtail recently (over $40) Then my wife suggested checking another popular source The price for the set brought the cost down to $12 per gouge with free shipping
Review of Schaaf Carving Tools - Woodcarving Illustrated Schaaf tools, my experience I recently purchased the original 12 piece set for $57 00 delivered to my front door There were three tools in this set that filled gaps in my current set After sharpening, the other nine tools will be donated to our club to be loaners so others can try carving with two hands
Review of Schaaf Carving Tools - Woodcarving Illustrated Took the chance on the Schaaf full 12 set roll through Amazon, band also the "professional sharpening" just to see what that would get me Every tool feels sharp, but a few have cutting edges that are not square to the shaft These arrived much quicker than expected Amazon warehouse must have a stash of the "hand sharpened" bundles
