O T Vintage sign paint removal restoration question I had an old "AAA Approved" sign that was coated with paint I could work with it over the kitchen sink Very hot water softened the paint, and a whole box of SOS pads took it off The soap in the SOS acted like a lubricant, so it didn't hurt the enamal painted sign Along those lines, maybe try a high-pressure steam cleaner?-Brad
Projects - Old patina painting technique | The H. A. M. B. You can use wet SOS pads to clean your chrome up a bit too if you want (not stainless) Looks like you have the patina look already but I understand wanting a little cleaner less orange rust look, you may even want to talk to someone about buffing it out a little, I dont know how to do that correctly myself but I need to learn Good luck!
Use household cleaning items on your car? | The H. A. M. B. I also use SOS pads a lot in the shop The soap on them acts as a lubricant while you're cleaning stuff I've used it on old metal signs and tool boxes, stainless trim, garage sale tools, white walls, etc Use it delicately It's a ham-fisted appraoch to some cleaning solutions, but I always keep a box in the shop
How are you guys bringing old chrome back to life? I have also been known to spot in a little silver chrome paint in a small area where chrome is missing, then kind of feather back into the edges of the spot, with the SOS pad taking the overpray off the actual chrome thats still good, to kind of blend it in May be an old used car salesmans trick but it doesnt look too bad considering
How to remove overspray off of chrome. | The H. A. M. B. - The Jalopy Journal Chrome is easier to scratch than most people think SOS pads will scratch the hell out of the plating, as will course steel wool and using the wrong scotch brite pad will do the same especially if any real pressure is used Razor on the glass easy, quick and works great
White Wall tires cleaning ? | The H. A. M. B. - The Jalopy Journal The cheapest white wall cleaner and the most effective without scratching the surface off white wall tires is the "Pink-Pensil-Eraser" get the largest one you can find, it doesn't put 'scratches' in the white wall material like sos pads or other abrasives, and doesn't wear the white off in time like those expensive chemical cleansers
Illinois DMV - Cab swaps? | The H. A. M. B. - The Jalopy Journal If you don't have a title for the new cab I think Russco is on the right track If it is something from a junkyard that has surrendered the title for a junking certificate then you will have to deal with the SOS Police to get a new VIN Once a junking certificate is issued in Illinois it is not able to be titled again
Hot Rods Selling a car with a bonded title - The Jalopy Journal 3 years ago I tried to buy a out of state car that was bonded ( michigan ) that the owner said was clear ( as Michigan is 3 years wait time the title was about 9 years old ) , IL SOS would not accept it ( the MI copy of the title we had said it was IN BOND and had the bond companys name on it ) at the DMV unless I had proof that it was cleared
