survival skills is a series of functional life management and job readiness skills workshops targeting the disenfranchised and disempowered with the focus of helping participants find their own strengths, their own answers, and gain the necessary life skills needed to become empowered and move toward self-sufficiency. a heavily researched and evidence-based curriculum meets all the national standards as a best-practice model, incorporating a curriculum that has been researched, field-tested, and replicated across the country with diverse populations and in diverse settings, offering a 25-year proven track record of success based on consistent outcome measures. while all three core programs incorporate key behavioral learning principles and methodology to ensure replicability, the mens and womens programs also have imbedded within them necessary adult learning principles, techniques and strategies to engage, motivate, and address critical issues unique to adult learners. the womens program has had exceptional success with the work first or welfare-to-work population. the mens program has been highly successful with fatherhood initiatives and as community-based programs for re-entry. both programs have a proven track record of success within the prison inmates or ex-offenders. the competency-based youth program incorporates two distinct theories as it targets high-impact youth populations to provide school-to-work transitional skills: resistance theory designed to meet the needs of difficult to reach youth, and resiliency theory which incorporates three critical factors to foster resilience in adolescents. the workplace program specifically targets the soft skills in five core competency areas needed for job retention and career advancement. whether offered by hr within corporate business and industry as a new employee orientation program for job retention or established within prison or the community as a re-entry program for ex offenders, the program has proven effective in helping participants learn the skills needed to gain control over their own lives and future while balancing their work and family responsibilities.
