i am suppose to graph y = lxl -4 with the values of X : -4, -3, -2, -1 . . . Basically, the absolute value means how far from the origin the point is with no sign attached to it That is, all the values of an absolute are positive regardless of what is inside the absolute value sign Think of absolute value as how far something is from a given point If you had a friend that lived 5 miles north of you and another friend that lived 5 miles south of you you would say
lxl + 5 lt;= 1 | Wyzant Ask An Expert lXl + 5 ≤ 1 Let's get the absolute value of X by itself Therefore, subtract 5 from both sides lXl +5 -5≤ 1-5 Simplify lXl ≤ -5 Here you can see that something is wrong, but continue the process Divide inequality into two parts: X≥5 and X≤-5 Now, substitute some values that are supposed to work back into the original inequality
