Easy Waterfall Hikes I’ve spent the last few years hiking trails to waterfalls along the Appalachian Mountains (mostly in North Carolina) to bring you the ultimate beginner’s guide for hikes in the region
Tennessee - Easy Waterfall Hikes Not only does Tennessee have waterfalls, but they are much bigger than most you can find in the surrounding states Even better, they don’t require a ton of work to get to and they’re all very unique
Great Falls (TN) - Easy Waterfall Hikes Height: 30 feet Trail Type: Asphalt Hike Distance: A few dozen feet Difficulty: 0 Beauty: 2 Overview: Great Falls is the original waterfall in the Rock Island State Park area, and if you’re the super adventurous type, there’s a way to get down to the riverbed and jump off the relatively short falls
Greeter Falls – Easy Waterfall Hikes Greeter Falls is the main waterfall in the Savage Gulf area of southeastern Tennessee Like most waterfalls in the area, it’s a free fall down a steep sandstone cliff carved by a strong creek
Twin Falls (TN) - Easy Waterfall Hikes Twin Falls (TN) Height: 80 feet Trail Type: Dirt Hike Distance: As long as you want it to be Difficulty: 1 Beauty: 10 Overview: 99% of the time, man-made waterfalls aren’t impressive or as enthralling as the real thing Twin Falls represents the 1%
Asheville – Easy Waterfall Hikes Asheville Photo courtesy – Explore Asheville Everyone assumes that because Asheville is in the mountains that it must be teeming with waterfalls This is a dumb assumption to make, mainly because Asheville lies at the bottom of a valley carved by the French Broad River
Virginia – Easy Waterfall Hikes If you do an internet search for waterfalls in Virginia, you’ll easily see listings that claim to have documentation of the waterfalls in the state (after you sift through all the West Virginia listings)
About – Easy Waterfall Hikes On one day, we were given a choice between two different hikes to two waterfalls on the property One hike, to Second Falls, was labeled as the hike only the sissies and old people went on
High Falls (Cullowhee Falls) - Easy Waterfall Hikes High Falls is fed by the dam at Lake Glenville, so flow can be practically minuscule OR, as above on the dam release days, it can be spectacular It’s also known as Cullowhee Falls for some reason, even though the town of Cullowhee is almost 30 minutes away
Winston-Salem – Easy Waterfall Hikes It sits in between the Sauratown Mountains to the north and the northernmost edge of the Uwharrie Mountains to the south As with central and eastern North Carolina, most of the land isn’t conducive to waterfalls, but there are some nonetheless, primarily in Hanging Rock State Park
