Remo vs. Evans heads | [DFO] Drum Forum I agree Remo coatings for batter heads don't seem to have much of a life-span I seldom use coated heads, prefer textured heads for snares so have limited experience To my ears, Evans heads seem to fit a more modern sound that emphasizes attack at the expense of resonance i would rather have the resonance, ergo i use mostly Remo heads
Coated head comparison for toms: Remo Ambassador -vs- Remo Emperor Remo sent me a set of heads for him He used a Coated Ambassador over a clear Ambassador on the high tom, and Coated Emperors over clear Ambassadors on the floor toms I really liked that combination, and I've been using it ever since (Sometimes I use coated Ambassadors on the resonant side )

Remo kit questions for experts. | [DFO] Drum Forum When Remo came out with its Gold Crown sets in the early-mid 2000s, they have new shells called Advanced Acousticon Interestingly, Remo dropped the molded bearing edges and returned to cut edges for these drums In an interview in Modern Drummer, a Remo rep said that the molded edge wasn't working for them but didn't explain exactly what he meant Hope this helps
Have you compared Calftone Earthtone Fiberskyn vintage heads? That was it for me I have fallen inn love with the Remo Fiberskyn Diplomat heads I have not experienced any delaminating problems with these like I did with the Calftones I also like the sound and feel better with the Fiberskyn Diplomats more than the Calftones or Fiberskyn Ambassadors
Gretsch Permatone heads compared to Remo Coated Ambassador As far as I know, Gretsch permatone heads are Remo ambs, nothing different about them The Permatones on my USA custom kit started peeling after a week of playing I bought a set of Aquarian Texture Coated as they are my goto head and they wouldn't clear the wrap due to the oversize shells and wrap
